SYMBIOTIC
he observation of art is an active and complicated exchange between viewer and object. Without explanation, no one can propose to know what the affect the artwork has on the viewer or how the viewer affects the work. This piece is a physical representation of that delicate interplay. 37 eight-foot long strips of flowing chiffon are suspended from a simple four foot square grid. Four synchronized projectors from different angles caste images onto this luminous surface. When viewers begin to approach the piece they inevitable block the light and create a shadow. The air caused by the viewer moving out of the way creates an unscripted dance between viewer and material. Each needs the other to be complete and to complete the viewing process.

SIGNIFICANT CURTAIN
s we go through life, we form very special attachments to spacific places. Our memories and emotions will always be tied to these locations. This project recognizes the importance of these places as remembered by the person connected to them. This curtain is an opportunity for a viewer to physically enter into a significant environment of the artist. A single line of text around the exterior explains its emotional importance. It provides an escape from the gallery; similar to the artist's relationship to the actual location.

OCTOBER PROJECT
his project is an exploration in how the chosen we make define us as individuals. All the participants in this project were given the simple task to select on leaf that captured their attention during the month of October, 2009. While everyone had the same opportunity, the choice the made and their reasons for choosing it varied greatly. Some selected leaves they thought were pretty. Others chose leaves that reflected their mood or life at the time. By completing the same task at the same time, the participants all belong to a very specific group. By allowing their individual ideas and personalities to determine the conclusions, they each further reinforced their unique qualities as individuals.

IN MEMORIUM
The significant relationships and personal associations we form with the world surrounding us can also exist in the simplest of objects. These flowers, collected from the ground of a local cemetery, only have value when on the final resting site of a loved one. Beforehand, they are cheap, plastic and of little importance; after the wind carries them away from their intended location, they become litter. By documenting them for all time through photography, they inherit a level of subjective importance, regardless of quality or previous purpose.

360ยบ PINHOLE
As the exploration of my relationship to space and location grows, I feel a need to capture as much information as possible so that it may later be studied and shared. This could not have been done with a traditional camera or image, I simple wanted to capture everything at once. After creating this six-holed pinhole camera, I was able to collect images in locations the human could not physically explore. The images became a presentation of the space in a way that could not be anticipated. I see these as the environment presenting itself for the camera, they are not landscapes but ephemeral studies of space.

EARTH
As an artist, I am constantly trying to expand my knowledge and technical skills. I believe that one area of work only becomes stronger when we practice another area. The attention to detail and patience of working the darkroom while doing these portraits only strengthen the same skills as I work in any area of photography. The purity of the image is only reinforced by the richness of traditional photographic practices. By stripping the background of outside information, these portraits show the simple the relationship of the subject and the camera.

RAILROAD FACTORY
This collection of images were taken at a former railroad maintenance factory in Salt Lake City. The only sounds to be heard while shooting were that of the new occupants, a flock of pigeons. However, there was an amazing luminance that, once again, shows how anything when viewed with an open mind can be beautiful. Even if it's only considered a burden or garbage.
